The National Research University Higher School of Economics is a leading government funded university in Russia. The Department of Mathematics was opened in 2008. Since then, it has become the most successful place in Russia for attracting researchers in Mathematics and mathematical students. We have Bachelors’, Masters’ and Ph.D. programs in Mathematics. The department collaborates with the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the RAS Institute for Information Transmission Problems (world renowned research institutes) and has student exchange programs with the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris and the University of Kyoto (Japan). Jointly with the Independent University of Moscow, the department publishes the Moscow Mathematical Journal, one of the most cited Russian mathematical journals, and runs “Math in Moscow”, an international student exchange program.
In 2012, we transformed our Master of Science (M.Sc.) program in Mathematics to an international program (conducted in English), and established a new Master of Science program in Mathematical Physics.
The Laboratory of Algebraic Geometry at HSE, headed by Fedor Bogomolov (Courant Institute, New York, USA), holds a Russian Federation mega-grant with which it is able to create attractive working conditions for post-docs and visitors, as well as to provide significant financial support to M.Sc. and Ph.D. students.
The department and the laboratory have been actively hiring in recent years and internationally leading experts from Russia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, and the USA have joined the faculty.
