Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the next meeting of the Seminar on Analysis, organized by the Faculty of Mathematics HSE.
Please note that during this semester the seminar meetings are scheduled for Thursdays at 18:00. Some meetings, including the present one, are held online only.
Abstract:
We will consider various processes (usually diffusion processes or deterministic dynamical systems) with multiple invariant measures. When a random perturbation is included in the system, the effective motion of the perturbed system can be described, under certain assumptions, by the evolution, in an appropriate time scale, on the space parametrized by the set of the ergodic invariant measures of the system. Then we'll focus on a particular type of systems - diffusion processes that have multiple invariant measures (due to the fact that the process leaves a number of hypersurfaces invariant). The invariant measures may concentrate on the invariant surfaces as well as, under some conditions, in the domains bounded by the surfaces. Small perturbations of such processes can serve as a model for transport across cell boundaries and membranes in biological and physical applications. We describe metastability for these processes in a way that has common features with the Freidlin-Wentzell theory for randomly perturbed dynamical systems with finitely many invariant manifolds.
We warmly invite you to attend the meeting of the seminar. Please feel free to share this announcement with colleagues and students who might be interested.
We look forward to your participation!
