HSE University has expanded its presence in the top 50 of QS subject rankings, placing in two additional subject rankings. HSE is represented in 4 of the 5 broad subject areas ranked by QS, and it has significantly improved its performance from last year in almost half of the individual subjects rankings in which it is included.

HSE University has improved its positions in the US News Best Global Universities institutional and subject rankings. For the first time, the University ranks among the top 100 universities in the world for mathematics. HSE is also the only Russian university in the subject rankings of Economics and Business and Social Sciences and Public Health, placing among the top 300 in both categories.

HSE University and MSU are the Russian leaders in the Shanghai Ranking in Mathematics. As before, HSE University demonstrates the best in Russia record of publications in the top mathematical journals: this year we are 39'th worldwide in terms of the TOP indicator of the Shanghai Ranking. 

HSE’s progress in the global rankings in 2017 can also be seen in the QS BRICS regional ranking, where HSE is now 39^th among all universities, moving up 23 positions as compared to last year.

HSE has entered the ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) in four subjects and become the only Russian university in three of them (sociology, political sciences, and economics). HSE is among the world’s Top 75 universities in Sociology. This is the first time HSE has made it into the ARWU.

Higher School of Economics (HSE) has entered the 2017 U.S. News Best Global Universities Ranking for Mathematics, in 181^st place.
