About HSE
The HSE is a young, dynamic, fast-growing Russian research university. Over the past twenty years, the HSE has become one of Russia's largest universities in the fields of economics, social sciences and humanities, and has earned the reputation of a national leader in higher education. One of its unique features has been its direct involvement in socioeconomic reforms in Russia, which has allowed HSE to develop as a “project and research university” where education, fundamental and applied research, and "think tank" activities are combined for the comprehensive development of society. Committed to high-quality research, HSE now has a considerable number of international research laboratories, led by eminent professors from all over the world; more such laboratories were opened in 2016.
About the Faculty of Mathematics
The Faculty of Mathematics was opened in 2008. Since then, it has become a leading place in Russia for attracting researchers in Mathematics and mathematical students. The Faculty has Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. programs in Mathematics. It collaborates with the Steklov Mathematical Institute, the Institute for Information Transmission Problems, and the Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (world renowned research institutes). Jointly with the Independent University of Moscow, the Faculty publishes the Moscow Mathematical Journal and runs 'Math in Moscow', a “study abroad” program for North-American students. Among our faculty members are distinguished researchers, including 14 invited ICM speakers; we have the best concentration in Russia of highly motivated students majoring in mathematics.
From THE REPORT OF THE INTERNATIONAL ADVISORY BOARD by Pierre Deligne, Sergey Fomin, Andrey Okounkov, Tetsuji Miwa, Stanislav Smirnov (September 2013): 'The Board is very much impressed by the current state of academic affairs at the Department. Within 5 years of its creation, the HSE has become the leading Russian institution of higher learning in pure mathematics.'
There are two international research units of the HSE affiliated with the Faculty of Mathematics: the international Laboratory of Algebraic Geometry and its Applications (scientific director: F. Bogomolov) and the international Laboratory of Representation Theory and Mathematical Physics (scientific director: A. Okounkov).
Requirements
Candidates must hold a recent Ph.D. in mathematics or related fields, or to be in receipt of the PhD before the starting date of the contract. The successful candidate is expected to conduct high-quality research publishable in reputable peer-reviewed journals with research support provided by the university’s Centre for Advanced Studies. The appointments will be made for three years in the first instance, starting in September 2017, with reviews of teaching and research during the third year.
Benefits
The salary is competitive, indexed to inflation annually, and subject to a 13% flat income tax. The university offers health insurance (free of charge), language assistance, and other social benefits; travel support and other research assistance are generous. Since we have heavy emphasis placed on high quality research, the teaching load of newly hired faculty is relatively low and service is minimal.
