Moscow Mathematical Journal Named Most Influential Russian Journal in Mathematics of 2017

The recipients of the annual Web of Science Awards are the most influential scientists, scientific organizations and publications of the year. The Moscow Mathematical Journal has made it into the top quartile in the subject area of mathematics and was announced by jury members to be the most influential Russian scientific journal of 2017.

HSE Will Confer its Own Degrees

The HSE International Laboratory for Mirror Symmetry and Automorphic Forms, which is among several international laboratories to recently open within the Higher School of Economics, was created in December 2016 as part of the Russian government’s mega-grants program. Below, the lab’s academic supervisor, Ludmil Katzarkov, along with deputy heads Valery Gritsenko and Viktor Przyjalkowski, explain why the laboratory is fully capable of becoming a unique multidisciplinary unit dedicated to the study of mirror symmetry, automorphic forms, and number theory.

HSE Helps Launch Poncelet Interdisciplinary Scientific Centre

On May 22, Russian and French scientists met in Moscow to sign an agreement to create the French-Russian Interdisciplinary Scientific Centre J.-V. Poncelet (ISCP), which the Higher School of Economics helped set up.

Emil Akhmedov, Daniil Kalinov and Fedor Popov on distinguishing black holes

Scientists from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, the Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics, and the National Research University Higher School of Economics have devised a method of distinguishing black holes from compact massive objects that are externally indistinguishable from one another. The method involves studying the energy spectrum of particles moving in the vicinity, which can be continuous or discrete. The findings have been published in Physical Review D.

Yulij Ilyashenko Elected a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society

On November 1st, the list of 2017 Class AMS Fellows has been made public.
According to the mission of the program, 'the Fellows of the American Mathematical Society program recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilization of mathematics.'
