The first International Congress of Basic Science (ICBS): the significant events for the Faculty of Mathematics

The inaugural International Congress of Basic Science (ICBS) is taking place in Beijing from July 16 to July 28, 2023, under the theme of "Advancing Science for Humanity", to bring together leading scientists from around the world in an effort to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The Congress focuses on three branches of basic science: mathematics, theoretical physics, and  theoretical computer and information sciences.

The opening and award ceremonies of the ICBS took place at the prestigious Great Hall of the People in Beijing on July 16.

Dean of our faculty Alexandra Skripchenko made a plenary report "Novikov's problem: from physics of metals to modern dynamical systems" at the Congress.

The Faculty of Mathematics congratulates Professor Mikhail Finkelberg who became the winner of Frontiers of Science Awards in two categories in the field of mathematics at once: in the section Homological Algebra, K-Theory and Noncommutative Algebra for the article "Coulomb branches of 3d N=4 quiver gauge theories and slices in the affine Grassmannian" in Advances in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics (2019) and in Mathematics of String Theory and Condensed Matter for the article  "Towards a mathematical definition of Coulomb branches of 3-dimensional N = 4 gauge theories, II" in Advances in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics (2018)!
