National Research University Higher School of Economics invites applications for PhD positions in Mathematics.

Applicants should hold a degree of Master of Science in Mathematics or equivalent. Application deadline: May 15, 2015

Please email the following documents to phdmath@hse.ru by May 15, 2015:

• a statement of interest, indicating the reasons for the choice of the HSE Postgraduate School of Mathematics, research plans, justified considerations on the choice of a prospective thesis advisor;
• the questionnaire with all fields filled;
• e-copies of research publications or preprints;
• a foreing language (English, French, German) proficiency certificate, other documents evaluating the candidate's command of one of these foreign languages (if available);
• previous coursework, BSc or MSc thesis prepared by the candidate;
• full name of a suggested thesis advisor(s);
• a provisional dissertation title or research area;
• mathematical honors and awards certificates (if available).

Applicants should hold a degree of Master of Science in Mathematics or equivalent.

Degree requirements: PhD in Mathematics

The PhD programme in Mathematics takes 4 years after the MSc.

The following are necessary conditions for obtaining the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics:

• Students must pass qualifying exams in Mathematics.
• By the law of Russian Federation, PhD students must pass state examinations in a foreign language (English, French, or German) and in Philosophy.
• All PhD students must have at least two publications by the end of their programme.
• To be awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mathematics, a public oral defense of a thesis is required. The thesis should contain results obtained by the student and published either in international journals indexed by Scopus or Web of Science, or in Russian journals included into the list of VAK.

Upon a successful completion of the 4-year PhD program, a state-approved diploma will be issued by the university. Upon a successful completion of all degree requirements and a successful defense, a PhD diploma will be issued by the VAK (all-Russian council authorized to grant scientific degrees).
